The first two events of the NZ Extreme Whitewater Race Series for 2012 are this weekend. The Kaituna Time trial will be held on Saturday 18th of February, and the Wairoa on Sunday 19th feb. The events are being held over one weekend to make it easier for those who have to come from far; so it’s gonna be tough and tiring but super fun weekend of racing, bring it on!
The third and final race in the series is the Citroen Extreme Race March 10th on the Kawarau river, Queenstown. Results from each event will be collated to find a series winner, to be presented at Citroen also.
Extreme race series T’shirts will be on sale at each of the events, available in selected colours and sizes by order. we’ll get the design up on here soon. organisers will be modelling them at the event.
Details for the races below. Keep checking back here for more info as we get closer to the event.
KAITUNA TIME TRIAL – Saturday 18th Feb
A time trial race from the ramp at put-in to bottom hole. Competitors get 2 runs, which will be combined for a fastest overall time.

Briefing: 10:30am
Race: 11:30am
WAIROA EXTREME RACE – Sunday 19th Feb
Lets hope you’ve been out to the Wairoa in the last few weeks as now the river has changed yet again from last years flood changes.
We’re moving the head to head challenge back to roller-coaster this year with a new rapid with new moves and fast lines yet to be found. This may even prove to be a bit of a leveller, possibly dampening the advantage experienced wairoa paddlers have in the race.
A similar format to years gone by, the event will start with a Time-trial from the seal launch rock at the put-in, to a finish line just above the waterfall rapid. The time trial will seed/rank racers for the head to head races later in the day.
The Head to head races will see 2 competitors battling it out down the waterfall and roller-coaster rapids, with the winner progressing into the next round.
Registration: from 9am
Briefing: 10:00am
Time Trial: 11:00am
Head to Head: 12:30pm
