Wairoa Event Schedule: THE INFO YOU NEED TO KNOW…

Saturday 18th: Wairoa Time-trial

Registration and bib pickup: 9am – 10am @ Lake McLaren (100m further up road from McLaren Falls).
Briefing: 10am @ Lake Mclaren
Time Trial Start: 11am
Time-trial course – From Mclaren Falls Put-in to the bottom of rollercoaster rapid. Finish touch Banner on river left. (same finish as the boater X race).
SAFETY:
Safety will be placed at strategic points along the Time-trial course, but most importantly, no-one paddles past someone in need. Help them out.
After the Time-trial, our Safety team will then set up on the roller coaster rapid from 12pm til 1:30pm, so you can get some laps in, try lines, and someone has your back. After 1:30pm the Safety team will leave and do some laps of their own.
Saturday Night: Camping available at Mclaren falls park from $10 per night. Click here for more info… https://www.tauranga.govt.nz/facilities/parks-reserves/parks-in-your-area/mclaren-falls-park.aspx

Sunday 19th: Wairoa Head 2 Head/Boater X

Registration: (if you were unable to race on Saturday) 10:00am – 10:30am @ Lake McLaren, 100m further up road from McLaren Falls.
Briefing @ Roller coaster Rapid: 11:45am
Boater X Start: 12pm
Prize Giving: 4:30pm Bottom Wairoa take-out paddock.
To take home the Wairoa Xrace Title you need to win the Head 2 Head competition, but this year, National Series points are on offer for the Time trial as well – it is treated as a separate event. Your results there will then seed you into the head 2 head competition on the Sunday.
The Wairoa X race weekend plays its part as 2 races in the 5 race national series. Your best 3 results count towards your national ranking. Click the link below to see how the points are allocated.
REMINDER:
Most kayakers are already aware of Didymo and the procedures and precautions to take to prevent its spread as well as other aquatic pests. Be sure to ‘clean check and dry’ BEFORE coming to the Wairoa Extreme. Especially anyone coming up from the South Island rivers it is imperative that all gear is decontaminated before entering any North Island waterways.
We may have some small scale decontamination facilities for your gear at the event if you are desperate.
Any questions or queries about this please contact me at brendanbayly@gmail.com or for more info visit http://mpi.govt.nz/…/other-progr…/campaigns/check-clean-dry/
